4 Indian military experts wounded in Vanni

Four Indian military experts, assisting the Sri Lankan military, were wounded this week in Vanni and are undergoing treatment in Colombo, reliable sources told TamilNet Friday. The story, first broke by the Australia based Global Tamil Vision (GTV) on Thursday, had said the wounded were Indian soldiers who were undergoing treatment at a military hospital in Colombo. Although TamilNet was able to confirm through reliable sources on Friday that there are at least 4 Indian military experts undergoing treatment, specific details were not obtainable due to the prevailing threat on the right to know information in the island. The wounded Indians were 'expert military personnel' who have been providing 'special field assistance' to the Sri Lankan military, the sources told TamilNet. The report comes amid protests in TamilNadu over unconfirmed reports that alleged shipment of tanks were on they way to Sri Lanka as military aid from India. In September 2008, two Indian radar operators working for Sri Lankan Air Force (SLAF) had sustained injuries in an attack carried out by the Liberation Tigers of Tamileelam (LTTE) on Sri Lankan forces Vanni Headquarters (Vanni SF-HQ) located in Vavuniyaa. On 17 December 2008, Indian defence attache of the Indian High Commission in Colombo was among the defence advisors/attaches of seven countries, who undertook a visit to Sri Lankan military command centre, which was coordinating Colombo’s offensive into the Vanni.

LTTE will win war ultimately: Vaiko

Madurai, Jan 3 (PTI) MDMK chief Vaiko today charged the UPA Government with helping Sri Lanka by giving arms, which enabled that country's army to capture the "deserted" Killinochi and said the LTTE will win the war ultimately."At least now, we should realise that the Indian Government hasn't done anything for the Sri Lankan Tamils. India has been supplying arms which helped the Lankan Government capture Killinochi," Vaiko, an ally of opposition AIADMK told reporters at Tirumangalam during assembly bypoll campaign. On the capture of Killinochi by Lankan Army, he said LTTE men had "strategically" withdrawn and the people there had gone into hiding. The town wore a deserted look."This is only a temporary victory for the Lankan Government. They can't defeat them permanently. They would strike back like their earlier operations." "I am confident that they (LTTE) will win the war ultimately." He alleged that the Sri Lankan Army was trying to eliminate the Tamil race and that the Sri Lankan President was "tyrannical". PTI
